Figuring it out

As I've never really been one to work out before this epiphany two years ago there has been a pretty steep learning curve. All embarrassing moments and in gym mistakes aside (yes I have slipped/fallen off a treadmill, and no you should run to your favorite dance mix - the temptation to dance on a treadmill is way too high and definitely a bad idea) there have been quite a few lessons learned along the way. Like washing your face prior to working out is vital to minimizing gym acne, and stretching is not  lame, it can be important, especially if you're pushing yourself to or past your limits. This section of la zinneke is where I'll share the random but important health and beauty tips and tricks I have and am discovering along the way.

Decreasing Workout Acne

1.  wash your face --> do this before and after working out. You don't want to sweat through your makeup because that'll just clog your pores and result in acne and after a strenuous workout you don't want your sweat to dry on your acne prone areas (same problem it'll clog your pores). I've started just having a small bottle of gel face wash in my gym bag to make this easy.

2. wipe down the machines/equipment you use...even in your own home --> in a gym not wiping down equipment will result in you sharing sweat and skin oils with the last person who used that machine and at home you'll be mixing dried sweat and skin oils, disgusting sounding and can lead to more oils and sweat on your skin that can clog your pores and lead to acne.  Just wipe down the equipment and avoid this.

3. don't touch your face! --> that gym equipment you're using is coated with sweat, germs and skin oils. Touching your face after handling this equipment isn't a good idea and again can lead to major break outs.

4. shower after your workout and immediately place your workout clothes in your laundry bag --> not only is this good hygiene but it'll prevent the oils and sweat you've accumulated during your workout from fully drying on your skin and causing your body to break out.

Minimizing EVIL Blackheads

get out your favorite gel face wash, baking soda, and salt

add a few squirts of your gel face wash (about 2-3 tablespoons) to a bowl (I add a little water because without it the mixture feels a little harsh for my skin, if your skin is sensitive add about 1/4 cup of water to your gel wash and mix then continue), then add 1 tablespoon of salt,
to that add 1 tablespoon of baking soda,
mix it all together, this looks like a science experiment as the mixture will bubble up for a second then turn cloudy and gel like. Let the mix stand for about a minute then apply it to area of your face you have black head trouble with (I focus on my chin and nose). Leave it on for 5 minutes then gently wash it off with warm water. I normally do this 1 - 2 times a week depending on time and memory.
